Farmhouse Chicken – Le Creuset Cast Iron Challenge

le creuset - chicken recipeLe Creuset kitchenware is very high up on my WANT list and these beautiful pieces of kitchen equipment are so adaptable and easy to use. You can use a pot to stew, braise, simmer or bake.

I have been sent a 20 cm round casserole pot by McArthurGlen Designer Outlets The centres stock a variety of luxury, designer and premium brands, but reduced by up to 70%. For cookware this includes: Le Creuset, ONEIDA, Viners, ProCook and Amefa to name a few.

McArthurGlen have challenged me to a recipe fight off against another 4 bloggers and my recipe will be judged by a Le Creuset chef who will score each recipe out of 20 and award points (out of 5) to the following categories:

After much pondering on a winning recipe – I can’t wait to try baking bread in my pot – I have gone for a simple everyday recipe to help busy girls out there put a nutritious meal on the table that will suit all of the family, can be done in half an hour and is an economical meal to produce and I’m calling it – very ingeniously Farmhouse Chicken. My prize, should I be so lucky to win, will be a £250 Le Creuset voucher

Farmhouse chicken

 4 chicken quarters
1 onion
2 carrots
1 celery stick
2 cloves of garlic
1 glass of red wine
1 tin of tomatoes 400g
chopped fresh tomatoes
salt and pepper


Brown the chicken pieces on both sides in a frying pan with the skin on for about 10 minutes until golden coloured. Place in your casserole dish

In the same frying pan prepare your soffritto – onion, carrots, celery and garlic finely chopped – sweat them until they are soft for about 5 minutes and then add to your casserole dish.


Add the chopped fresh tomatoes

Add the glass of wine and the tin of tomatoes, the salt and pepper, rosemary and parsley, stir well, cover and cook for at least 30 minutes

Serve with new potatoes or chunks of fresh bread – maybe made in another pot, but that’s another post ;)
