Wooden stackable cubes John Crane

John Crane rainbow cubes75 sleeps to Christmas! It’s slowly working down and I have received my November issue of Good Housekeeping which is full of lovely recipes for the perfect Christmas dinner which happens to be my other half’s favourite meal of all time. The pair of us have cracked an excellent Christmas dinner between us and soon we shall be finding out who’ll be joining us for our special day, it’s going to be a quiet one for us this year and I’m really looking forward to it.

Have you noticed how the advertising on TV has all suddenly gone toy mad? Not that that is surprising it’s ‘that time of year!’ But we go one better here at Mari’s World, this weeks John Crane toy for you to think about is the beautiful Rainbow Cube, fun wooden stackable cubes

Just look at how high it stacks! 104cms.

The colours are gorgeously vibrant and each side of the cube has a number or a picture, animals, fruit, words and numbers. the cubes are light and easy to handle, they stack away inside each other very neatly making it an easy toy to take out and about and to put away at the end of the day.

The Rainbow cube does an excellent job or promoting hand to eye co-ordination as the child learns to stack them on top of each other, the fact they are all different sizes teaches the child spatial awareness as he/she figures out which size goes next in order to make the tower.

As you can see from our video the girls talked about the animals, the fruit and even recognised the numbers as they chatted together during construction. They enjoyed the puzzle put before them and for me it was interesting to notice how Bessie the more forward twin barges her way in with an eagerness to do it all herself and Alice on the other hand is happy to sit back and let her do as she pleases.

The Rainbow Cube is suggested 18 months upwards and is part of their Explore range where you can find lots of other fabulous ideas.

See you next week for question five and another fabulous toy idea for your Christmas list

Wooden tractor and trailer – John Crane

John Crane tractor82 sleeps to Christmas that’s almost 20 less than when we first started but thank heavens not a flake of snow in sight. YET.

Mind you I have received at least one Christmas catalogue, I’ve spotted my first Christmas trees in John Lewis last Thursday and in the November monthly magazines that I am subscribed to which are currently landing on my doormat I already have recipes for a home made Christmas Pudding and plenty of time saving ideas for my Christmas nosh not to mention lists of ideas of presents to buy every member of the family.

This week I am presenting the John Crane Tractor with its trailer and farmer. As you can see in the photo it has been carefully crafted in wood and is presented in bright eye-catching colours. The friendly farmer who can stand alone or be easily bent to sit comfortably on his tractor can be kept busy all day whilst children practise their communication skills and role play. Perfect for enhancing hand to eye co-ordination and another toy built to last the test of time which is why it comes under the Tidlo Timeless Toy range. It’s also the perfect addition to the John Crane Oldfield Farm set

3rd question – How many colours does the John Crane First Bike come in? Answer to be found on Whodunnit

See you next week for question four and another fabulous toy idea for your Christmas list

John Crane Swimming Pool

John Crane Swimming pool89 sleeps to Christmas and the countdown is on. John Crane are putting together a mystery parcel to the value of £300 for one lucky winner which will be gender and age orientated. All you have to do is return each Tuesday from now to the 13th December and keep your answers to the questions safe. On the last Tuesday you will be given an email address where to send your questions to together with the age/s and gender/s of how you’d like your parcel to be put together. Easy!

Not only that John Crane want to help you with the difficult decision making that can go into present buying and each week one of their beautiful wooden toys will be featured. Last week we showcased the colourful abacus which makes counting and learning numbers so much fun.

The beauty of wooden toys is that they are timeless and therefore perfect heirlooms to be passed down through the family for years to come. The quality is exceptional and each piece has been carefully chosen for it’s educational value, it’s clever design and it’s sturdy make up. Top quality goods at very affordable prices.

John Crane 100 sleeps logoThis week we want to draw your attention to the John Crane swimming pool which can be used alone or added to the Doll’s house to make a more luxurious pad for the Family to live in. We are playing with the Black family in our swimming pool this week and take a closer look and you’ll see they have beautiful clothes and a lot of attention to detail has gone in to their creation.

The swimming pool comes with a sun lounger (for mum of course) and three deckchairs, the lounger ‘sits up’ with the aid of a triangular brick that slots neatly and easily behind the backrest and the umbrellas are ingeniously made with wooden stalks that small hands can ‘fix’ into  place. The Black family consists of four members, mum dad, brother and sister, the brother has a rucksack on his back which can be removed and I don’t know how many times it’s been off and on in this house. all the figures have bendy arms and legs and their heads swivel all the way round, the clothes are removable should there be a need to wash them. My girls play with this toy alone by setting it up on their play table and of course together with the dolls house. Have a look here at prices and what’s on offer Tup Tup

As swimming is one of their favourite things to do, be it the paddling pool in the back garden or a trip to our local swimming pool they have really enjoyed this game and it’s been really fun sitting back and listening to them come out with gems such as ‘I’m dripping wet.’

John Crane 100 sleeps logoThis week’s toy review is the Tidlo Wooden Abacus. It is brightly coloured and light to hold and is suggested for children 3+ but should a little nipper get hold of it I’m sure they’d love playing with the beads and perfecting their hand – eye co-ordination. I hadn’t really realised just how much the girls already know when it comes to counting and I was surprised to see them quickly perfecting their reasoning and thinking as they moved the beads across the strands.

The beauty of this toy is they have already used it in a shop keepers role play and I can see it becoming very handy the minute we start having to tackle the first maths homework 1 + 2 and so on, you never know I might even perfect my own maths skills along the way!

Take a look at this short video to see how the girls played with it :)

Now for your first question…. *clears throat* What are the names of the seven reindeer who pull Santa’s sleigh? A hint can be found here

100 sleeps to Christmas! Competition time

John Crane 100 sleeps logoWelcome to the biggest ever Craniac Christmas Countdown Competition today marks 100 sleeps until Christmas Day and if I look back in my crystal ball to last year I see snow, massive amounts of snow arriving all over the UK upsetting parcel distribution, the postal service, food deliveries. Our airports shut down, motorways were empty – our whole country went to pot basically and it took right into the New Year for some people to receive their goods ordered through internet intended for Christmas presents.

snowfall November 2010So, why not start early? Spread the cost and take your time choosing rather than a last minute rush and a huge overdraft that will take till Easter to clear.

I put this idea to John Crane, my favourite wooden toy supplier who I have been working with all year and together we came up with a plan. Why don’t we make it easy for you? Mari’s World will showcase one of their toys each of the following 13 (lucky for some) weeks on the lead up to Christmas and give you direct links to where the product can be bought.

In addition, as it’s Christmas, we have devised a competition, where the grand prize for one lucky reader is a £300 mystery parcel of John Crane toys!!! The prize will be put together taking into account the correct age and gender. You can see from my vlogs for yourself the excellent quality of the toys and the many different educational skills each toy lends. In fact remember this one?

John Crane

The fabulous John Crane High Tea Set, my girls adore it and although one cake is currently missing (In the toy box? In the dolls house? Did the Farmer take it?) this toy is brought out on a daily basis and the teddies and dollies are served tea. A superb educational piece that has my girls developing their communication skills, their imaginations as they role play and their number recognition as each cake is cleverly numbered with the matching number on the cake stand. Not to mention it also acts as a shape sorter too as each cake fits into its own numbered spot.

A huge hit in homes up and down the country. One could be included in your Wishlist as you return each week for the question of the week and compile your wishlist for the £300 mystery prize

So how do you win the £300 prize?

Every Tuesday from now till 13th December you will find the John Crane Toy of the Week and there will be a Christmas question to answer, all you have to do is keep note of your answers. On Tuesday 13th December you will find your final question and an email address where you can send all 13 answers plus a 100 word tie breaker starting ‘I think I should win the Craniac Christmas Countdown prize because…’
