Elf on the Shelf – what’s it all about?

elf on the shelf

For those of you who follow me on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter you will have seen daily photos going up of our new house guest Faelcon, our #ElfontheShelf. I found his name on the Elf Name Generator :)

The UK in fact has been invaded by an army of Elves. We now have two and we adore them both, our second Elf is Snowflake made lovingly by Mary over at Keynko.

Elf on the Shelf originated from the States and has his own website too where it explains perfectly what he is all about, basically he is sent by Santa to report back on the children’s behaviour and adds a bit of fun to the run up to Christmas by getting up to a bit of mischief.

Now oddly enough, not everyone is as enamoured as I when it comes to these sweet little guys, for example Gemma said she’d like to take them out one by one with an air rifle.. bit harsh I thought and then Aly wrote a whole post on her fear of Elf on the Shelf – way too much imagination!

Anyway, he arrived by train on 1st December much to the surprise of the twins, they didn’t quite know what to make of him to start with but he was sitting on the advent train where there was chocolate, so all was ok. He also had a letter from Santa under his arm and the Snowman Letter to Santa packs asking them to get their letters off to Santa as soon as possible.

I decided to introduce his mischief to them whilst we were out at the school Christmas Fayre we arrived home to find he’d taken a bite out of every single doughnut. They thought this was really naughty and funny and it set the tone for his stay in our home.

December 2nd – I have decided this year to keep to day time tricks because I want them to sleep at night and not get excited about what Elf is up to. so whilst at school on Monday, I tidied up the Doll’s House and sat him by the swimming pool on a lounger as he made himself at home. When the girls found him I was pleased they happily played with the Doll’s House again after months of not looking at it. They thought it was very good of him to tidy up the house.

December 3rd – The girls returned after school to find Elf sitting and reading The Christmas Story to all of their teddies and dolls, it was a great sight to walk into the bedroom to and they both made a point of reading Elf’s book themselves.

More December 3rd – The girls didn’t see this bit I staged it for Gemma as together with other pro Elf bloggers we fight for Elf Freedom of speech, fortunately Gemma thought it was funny.

December 4th – Midweek, coughs and colds coming on we might be coming down with a bug in the house so Elf decided to get out his favourite DVD Elf! the girls found two bowls of treats waiting and happily sat and watched the film after school.

December 5th – This one really made them giggle, to find the elves using the bannister as a slide. The shoes were placed with a bit of Blutac, we removed the Blutac and the girls played slides for a bit.

December 6th – Elf tries on Ken’s Hawaiian shirt and cuddles up with Barbie and the princesses.

I write before picking them up from school today (Friday) so the next Elf on the Shelf update will let you know how they found this scenario and what happens for the rest of the week

Have a great week all

What brilliant ideas, so imaginative! Mine has just moved about the house a bit so far (although to fair mine are only little and this is enough to thrill them for now!)

Ha ha ha ha! Yes I do have way too much imagination and paranoia to boot.

The one with the Hawaian shirt made me laugh… Such imagination Mari! I have enough to deal with what with Krampus and Saint Nicholas and the other new traditions that creep in as we live abroad, otherwise he might be visiting us too! :D
