Tesco finest* – Made by Passionate People

tesco finest event

Last week I travelled up to London to attend a Tesco finest* event and I was over the moon to discover they stock wild mushrooms, the very same mushrooms I used to forage in the mountains with zia Rita. In Italian we called them finferli but you’ll find them in the supermarkets as girolles or golden chanterelle. They make the most delicious risotto or you can have the pan fried in a little oil with garlic and parsley as an accompaniment.

In fact I was really impressed with the whole range, Tesco finest showed us some videos they had made of their suppliers and it’s really nice to know that the products we are being sold are chosen carefully and come from family producers that have been working in their niche industry for generations like the di Martino family who supply the delicious pasta and The Tummey family based in Grimsby who supply the smoked haddock.

Remember I did a recipe the other day, San Daniele Slice? Well Tesco have an 18 month matured Parma Ham that wrapped around an olive breadstick is a perfect canape to serve your guests with drinks.

The pan seared King Scallops drizzled in balsamic vinegar were very more-ish, in fact I had about 4 of them and I was intrigued to find a sweet tomato and piri piri chilli chutney in my hamper – that will add a kick to a sliver of cheese on biscuit this autumn.

Then there are the new products like the Red Velvet Cake for example for only £10/145g. Superb!

I tried the steak and it was melt-in-the-mouth good, I’ll definitely be buying them for an easy but delicious Friday night meal.

And of course we were given some chocolate to taste too, my hamper had a bar of Peruvian 70% dark and it was out of this world amazingly delicious. I’ll certainly be buying some more of that.

The newly designed packaging and products are being sent out to stores over the country this week so keep an eye out for them and treat yourself, add a couple to your basket this week and let me know what to try out next. Take a look at the flowers too, this bouquet only costs £15 and it’s beautiful

Disclosure: I attended a Tesco finest event and came home with a fabulous picnic hamper full of products to try. All opinions are my own though.

The chocolate has gone but I’m sure we can make a great lunch from the rest.

Ditto my chocolate has also gone already – funny that ;-)
I am drinking the beautiful tea about 4 times a day and as for the Chutney, I have cheese and crackers JUST to get it out.

I did a brief blog post quite soon but now that I have downloaded my video of pasta man I need to do another.

Was lovely to see you there and looking so very well.

Lovely to see you too Liska, I’m going to nip over and watch your video now

Those finferli make me want to eat pasta – really badly.

It’s funny that you mentioned how passionate the makers of the range are. I watched Liska’s video and said exactly that. The guy talking about the pasta could have sold me a mouldy slice of bread, but he would have done it with passion. It makes you believe so much more in a product when its makers or the people who source it are so passionate about it…
