Did you ever play the game as a child where someone would start the first line of a story and pass it round the group of friends to see where it went? I used to love that game so when I heard Laura from Tired Mummy of Two wanted to have a go, I was in. I’m part of an excellent group of bloggers and each one has added a bit to Laura’s initial kick off.
We all have a blog hop at the bottom of the post so you can click from one to the next to follow the story and see how putting 20+ minds together we can come up with this.
I’m picking the baton up from Emma who blogs at Emma and Three Yesterday ended with an enraged Laura who wants to know where the hell Robert, her husband presumed dead all these years, has been whilst she’s been scrimping and saving to pay off the debts he left before the accident….
‘Why?’ ‘Where have you been?’ ‘Why not just talk to me?’
The words were tumbling out now faster than she could control them and with each extra question she could feel her rage increasing.
‘Do you think this is funny?’ she screamed at him noting a small smile waver on his lips, the same smile she used to adore, the one that had made her feel so special. The one she had longed all this time to see again.
Robert opened his mouth to reply, the hint of a smile lost and a look of panic in his eyes, he hadn’t expected such a strong reaction from her, he thought she’d be happy to see him return, that’s what the guru in Bali had told him.
‘Let me explain love, I’ve been on a spiritual retreat in Bali, I’ve been finding myself and I see how I did wrong, so very wrong. I want to make things right Laura. It was all Karma and now I want to make amends.’
‘Amends? Karma? YOU WANT TO MAKE THINGS RIGHT? What planet are you living on Rob? Whilst you’ve been sunning it up in Bali I have had to sell our house, our car, everything to cover YOUR gambling debts. I’ve had bailiffs knocking at my door, carting out our furniture to a van. I’ve spent ten years mourning you, thinking you were dead and now you want to make things up and sort out your karma? The last word spat out like a bitter taste in her mouth.
‘Get out of here. Go back to Bali and your guru Rob. Did you think you could just walk back into my life? Are you mad?’
The door bell rang interrupting her mid-flow, oh she had so much more to him before she was done. She stormed off to take a breath, calm her rage and see who it was. She wrapped her dressing gown tighter, glancing at the clock in the hall, ‘Ten o’clock and still not dressed.’ She’d better get a move on. She felt the skin around her eyes swelling, ‘Great! A black eye on it’s way, could it get any worse?’ She opened the door
‘Surprise!!! Happy birthday Sis.’
The sight of her gorgeous brother standing in front of her with his wife holding balloons, gifts and a cake greeted her and threw her off course. Tears filled her eyes and she hugged him stronger than she had ever done over the past ten years sobbing into his shoulder.
‘Come on sis, what’s the matter? We’re taking you on a holiday today, a Caribbean cruise. Our ship leaves this afternoon. We need to get you packed.’ ‘What’s that on your face? Did you fall over last night? You were pretty wrecked, it was good to see you let your hair down at last.’
Simon chatted as he walked her down the short corridor towards the lounge and as he turned the corner his eyes landed on Robert standing opposite.
And now it’s time for me to pass the baton on, I hope you like the way I gave Laura some balls to stand up for herself confronted with the man she lost and I’ll be very interested to see what happens next. For that you must visit the lovely Sandy over at Baby Baby Come on Laura, we’re all routing for you.
