I wanted to try something a little different from all of the sweet Pudsey Bear recipes on offer and thought I’d give cheese straws a whirl as the girls love them, they’re nutritious, great to keep in a plastic box for ‘Mummy, I’m hungry!’ moments and an excellent alternative to the usual biscuit. Having used recipes for cupcakes from Baking Mad the other day I needed to come up with something new for Pudsey’s big day today.
They are so simple to prepare and only take 10 mins, plus the little ones can help too!
Ingredients
120g butter
450g grated cheese
250g plain flour
1/2 tsp chilli powder/mustard powder/cayenne pepper (optional)
Method
Preheat the oven to 200C Gas 6 and grease some baking trays – I used 3 as the bears are quite large
Rub the butter, flour and salt with your fingertips until they resemble breadcrumbs, add the cheese and any optional spices if used)
Mix with two eggs to form a dough and knead well
Roll dough out to 1.25 cms thick on a floured surface and using a Pudsey Bear cookie cutter cut out and place on the baking trays about 2/3 cms apart
If using sprinkle with chilli powder
Bake in the oven for 10 – 15 minutes
They look delicious! I’m glad you went for savoury rather than sweet as that’s my penchant!
Look great. You just reminded me of some unused bear cake moulds I think I have stashed away somewhere. Of to find them now and get domesticated.
