How lucky we were to be sent a Sweet Treats Cake Pop Maker to review! In all honesty it’s been sitting on the side for quite a while now but with the run up to Christmas I just couldn’t find the time needed to do this and had I known how easy and quick it was I would have done it a lot earlier!

I decided to use the recipe printed on the box even if there is a booklet inside with many other ideas. The printed recipe makes about 30 pops which I really didn’t need as my cupboards were heaving with food for Christmas, so I halved the recipe and made 15

Ingredients

60g softened butter
60g caster sugar
2 medium eggs
50g self raising flour
1 1/2 tbsps cocoa powder
1 tbsp milk

To decorate
Lollipop sticks (Lakeland)
450g Candy Melts (Lakeland)
Sprinkles, edible glitter and sparkles – go wild!

Method

  1. Beat the butter and sugar in a bowl until light and fluffy
  2. Add the egg and beat again until fully incorporated, sift the flour and cocoa powder on top and add the milk too. Beat until a smooth mixture is obtained and it’s thoroughly combined.
  3. Using two teaspoons fill the base section of the Cake Pop maker and bake for approx 4 minutes, remove and leave to cool
  4. Melt the Candy Melts in the microwave. Dip the end of a lollipop stick in the Candy Melts and insert into a Cake Pop, dip the Cake Pop into the Candy Melt and then decorate as desired.

Verdict
The girls LOVED decorating them as you can see in the video so an excellent ‘cooking’ activity to do together. they only decorated two each before they’d had enough but they are only three, I think a couple of years more and they’d have happily decorated all 15 and wanted more. The pops are delicious, even on their own as the undecorated ones I kept in a cake tin, they made good snacks to hand out

Tips for chocolate cake pops recipe

  1. When coating the pops, bang stick gently on the side of the bowl to knock the excess chocolate off
  2. A piece of oasis, plasticine, blue tac or a glass of sand would be sufficient to hold the pops upright whilst they dry
