Just before Easter I was sent through a Max White Toothbrush plus Whitening Pen to review. I had agreed to it as I have had my teeth whitened before in Italy and the transformation was amazing, white teeth really do give a better smile.
Personally, I think a smile is your best outfit, it gives you confidence, it makes you look more approachable and nicer to the outside world. Therefore looking after your teeth is a huge priority for me. I take my dental care very seriously as I am very aware, the older you get the more likely you are to lose your teeth. I visit my dentist twice a year for check ups and clean my teeth rigorously twice a day. In fact my dentist tells me I may have over-brushed in the past as my gums are receding a bit, yikes, time to be more careful.
I am sure you too will notice that over time your teeth become stained with everyday foods and drinks; we use whitening toothpaste all the time in the hope to keep darker stains at bay. So when I heard about Colgate’s new product of the Whitening Pen I was intrigued.
How does it work? Would it work?
I needed to find out for myself.
Colgate Max White Toothbrush PLUS Whitening Pen
The product is a compact toothbrush and whitening pen to use in three easy steps, brush, whiten go!
How to use it
Brush your teeth with a good toothpaste like Colgate Total Poof.
Twist and pull the pen out from the bottom of the brush and apply the whitening pen one tooth at a time.
Twist the pen back into the toothbrush and pop back on the shelf, you’re done!
How does it work?
The whitening gel contains 0.1% hydrogen peroxide, the active ingredient used by dentists. The gel reacts with the surface stains (extrinsic) as well as significantly whitens teeth deep below the enamel (intrinsic stains) to remove colour and reverse years of yellowing. The gel sticks to the teeth to allow a slow release of its active ingredient, no waiting, no rinsing.
How was it for me?
I liked the toothbrush very much as it is a soft brush and gives a good clean. I love the fact that the whitening pen slots into the brush making it a very simple product to use. The gel is very easy to apply to your teeth, you simply twist the pen and gel appears on the pad at the top which you then rub onto your teeth.
The gel is sticky and you can feel it on your teeth, for this reason I would suggest using it before bed rather than before you go out. You can see the gel on your teeth for a while. It has no taste and you cannot ‘feel’ it working. I have very sensitive teeth and using a whitening product in the past I have found painful but not this one.
Does it work?
I think yes but it takes time and consistency, something I haven’t had much of this past month PLUS don’t forget I’ve been eating, drinking and indulging more than usual with my birthday festivities, wedding in Italy and lots more fun occasions.
I shall persevere with it, if nothing else it’s keeping new stains at bay and when I start to use it properly then I will start to see the effect.
I have been told three weeks continuous use to see results.
