Before children, Husband and I would go out to a swanky restaurant for a good meal and a proper night out to celebrate Valentine’s Day, there would be flowers and cards and even gifts exchanged. It was exciting, just as young, or should I say new, love should be.
One year we booked into a favourite restaurant in a beautiful country village closeby. We’d eaten there before and the food is excellent so we were both really looking forward to it, a romantic dinner for two in one of your favourite restaurants, what could go wrong?
Simple, the restaurant wanted to make the most of this special event and so crammed extra tables into the restaurant, the result was ours was a tiny table squeezed in between a couple of others, a bit too close and uncomfortable but never mind, we weren’t going to let that ruin our special night out.
The menu arrived and our hearts dropped a bit, it was a fixed menu and although there were choices it wasn’t the same as choosing from the a la carte.
Then as we drew near to the end of our meal we were asked to take coffee in the lounge as they had to relay our table for more guests arriving.
Now having worked in the trade I do understand about making the most of events but it is also vital to ensure your customers enjoy their night out, as a result we haven’t been back there since and still think of that disappointment when their name comes up in conversation.
So we have a Date Night in and we’ll be doing that this year too only M&S wanted to add their special #Sharethelove touch to our date night and have sent along some fabulous ‘props’ to ensure a great evening is had even if we are in our front room.
A string of LED lights enclosed in paper white hearts now sits along my mantelpiece (£19.50) An assortment of white candles to cluster together shall be placed on the table, one even smells of coconut which conveniently reminds me of sun tans – a great subject to bring up over the Mr’s favourite meal. Where shall we go this summer?
A couple of the most beautiful and delicate flutes which are tall and elegant rimmed with a gold band at the top (£7.50 each) Cheers!
And finally look at this delightful Message in a Bottle. The top comes off and there are two blank scrolls inside. I’m going to get us both to write a message to the other and roll them back up inside. (This is my girly part of the evening.)
Everyone knows M&S have a fantastic Lingerie department and I was allowed to pick a little number to make me feel special on the night – what do you think? I adored the colours and instead of going for my usual two piece I went for the body. I love it. This is my ‘Oh La La! part of the evening’ ;)
Finally of course we need a meal, a special meal with starter, main and dessert and M&S have so many options, you can buy some great meals that just need heating up if you’re in from work and short on time or you can buy fresh produce and make your own which is probably what I’ll do. Not sure of the menu yet but I might treat us to filet steak ;)
Here are some great ideas I’ve used in the past
What will you be eating?
Disclosure: M&S very kindly sent me a box of goodies to create a #sharethelove atmosphere and a voucher to cover a meal for two on Valentines Day for the purpose of this post.
